start by putting the hair into a neat pony tail using hairspray to smooth the sides
with the pony tail separate into two sections, slightly backcombing each section and pin inwards in a sort of a bun shape and fan out with, creating two small plates either side of the head and pin into the middle of the bun
start by seperating the hair into two more in the back then then front, with the front section of the hair part tin the middle and curl bot sides of the hair, with the back of the hair gather onto a pony tail leaving some hair out and begin to curl the pony tail with the loos pieces of hair curl them and pin up towards the pony tail.
Estella evaluation
i though this look turned out very well i tried to keep the makeup simple as that's how i saw Estella her makeup was always minimal adding the bruising was the big part of the look trying to get the balance right between the colours was hard and trying to make it look realistic the air was straight forward although in my designs the bun of the hair was much higher if i could change anything about this look it would be to work into the bruise a bit more, make it stand out more.
final evaluation miss havisham
for this project i was comfortable working with shahana as i had worked with her before and know her skin type my design was fairly straight forward to apply and there was no complications my design idea proved to be somewhat tricky when creating the continuety version trying to get the same look twice was chalanging
miss havisham practice look (makeup)
this was my first attempt at my final design of muss havisham out of the three of my face chart ideas the second one appealed to me more so i chose this look for my final design i started of by applying a pale base foundation over the face and under the neck and on the ears then using a darker colour foundation i asked the model to from so the lines in her forehead was visible also squinting her eye produces lines within the corners of her eyes and at the sides of her mouth i drew thin lines of brown where the lines were noticeable.
with the eyes i used a dark brown eye shadow around the top of the eyes and under the eye lines and a darker colour for the bags.
i then applie liquid latex on the cheeks the top of the nose and around the lips then once dried i began to peal of gently creating an extreme flaky dry skin effect then finally adding some white eye shadow to the eyebrows.
miss havisham practice look (hair)
when styling miss havishams hair i started off by sectioning the hair into two front and back with the front i separated into two through the middle and out 3 large curls falling down on both sides of the the face.
with the back of the hair i parted into two also but in the shape of a horse shoe with the top section i tied into a bun shape but still in four equal parts then with the bottom of the hair u curled and pinned up towards the bun.
finally i used dry shampoo to create a grey hair effect.
Estella
Estella to me was a one of the more mysterious characters after miss havisham,
what looked to be a soft and loving was actually incapable of love and was groomed to be a very hard women.
reading the book helped more more with coming up with a look for Estella because you don't have have an actual image to base her in just what you read and you get much more of an description of what she is like.
when it came to starting my design for Estella I had three different ideas the base makeup was kept simple with a pale face rosy cheeks and pink lips the thing i changed in the design was the placement of the bruising as we know she was abused by her husband.
The first the bruising was placed on the side of the chin and under one eye.
The next design i placed a small cut on the side of the lip and bruising on the forehead and under one eye.
The last design had bruising on the top of the forehead and under the eyes.
miss havisham ideas
creating miss Havisham i cane up with 3 different face charts that i thought best represents miss havisham
the first face chart i created was this look with bloody fleshy burns around the face
the second face chart was i went with a more old unkempt look with extreme dry scabbing on the nose lips and cheeks with dark bags under the eyes and old age lines around the forehead the eye and around the sides of the mouth.
the last look i created was more simpler with a pale face and old ageing techniques around the forehead nose eyes mouth and chin.
Continuity
continuity in makeup is important in film and tv continuity meaning that the makeup remains the same in each shot wether its blood splatters on the body, placing of a wound or the wing of an eye liner continuity in film is important because when watching a film people expect tv and film to look realistic to if a wound of any type of makeup changes position within te same shot it would be unprofessional.
i started of by separating the hair into large equal section, curl each part and pin allowing the curl to set
after leaving the curls for a momment or two i removed the pins and brushed the curls out for a soft curl look after i then curled two sides of the hair and pined at the back
this look didn't turn out very well because i brushed the curls out a bit too much so it looks slightly to strait .

Wound Molds
i started if with a gunshot mold made of latex
then using adhesive i applied to the hand, using witch hazel on a cotton bud i smoothed over any unwanted edges and covered with foundation on the inner part of the wound i added dark blood then mixed a lighter shade blood with tiny dabs of puss to it.
wax wound
creating this wound using wax was new to me i started of by spreading the wax over my area of choice trying to get it as evenly spread as i could i then covered with foundation then using a spatula i created my wound mark on the inside of the wound i added dark blood and puss and let it drip down the face.
The coverage on the wound could have been applied much better and much smoother over the skin to look more realistic.
Bruises
This was my first attempt at creating a bruise effect and it looks fairly simple but getting the balance of the colour's right so it looks realistic also having to think about if its a fresh bruise or an old bruise matters.
i decided to go with a fresh looking bruise for this bruise I used a bruise wheel with green, purple, blue and touches of yellow.
i tried to spread the colours evenly around so it doesn't jut look like a purple patch on the forehead.

for my first attempt i think it turned out decent but the more i practice the better it will look.

High Definition Broadcasting
High Definition broadcasting known to everyone as HD is a way of broadcasting were everything is much more clearer to the eye.
having everything in hd nowadays means for makeup artist everything has to be flawless because everything is noticeable.
for makeup artist who has made the transition to working with hd has changed some of there techniques that work better with high definition broadcasting.
In this day and age nearly everywhere you look everything is taken in HD so much so that there is now a makeup line specifically for HD filming

"With more than four times the sharpness and clarity of a conventional SD recording, make-up for HD needs to be blended extremely well - at least to 35 mm film standard. The demarcation lines from cosmetics that are inadequately blended are far more obvious in high definition."

The Gothic Anaylsis
how was the Gothic depicted in the great exception?
The Gothic era was known for its ghost tales and old haunted looking mansions which was a big part of the story because miss havisham never left her home which was a typical old fashioned creepy mansion with the high staircases and church looking doors
.
Miss havisham fell under the grotesque character because of how she presented her self very pale faced and dark eyed looking very unhealthy and always in her wedding dress giving the impression she never took it off

Burns!
To create this fleshy burnt effect i used gelatin and applied to the arm, To make the textured effect i used a spatula and tapped the gelatin which created more depth.
To colour the burn i started with dark thick blood were the gelatin goes in slightly to make it look more 3d on the outer parts i added a more lighter colour blood in and around the burns also adding yellow puss for more of a fleshy look
i also mixed the puss with blood so that the deeper parts of the wounds looked like it was oozing
For a first try i was pleased with the outcome of it but the colouring of the burn could be improved.
My Victorian Hairstyle
This was my first attempt at an victorians hairstyle
I started by finding my middle parting I then split the hair into two, front and back.
With the back of the hair I separated into two in a horseshoe shape I then gathered that section in a hairband and made a bun only difference was i did not join the bun together so it was four equal separated parts
I then curled the bottom of the hair and pinned in and around the bun.
with the front of the hair I kept the middle parting and with one side i made 3 large curls and swept around the side of the the head I repeated this to the other side.
For my first attempt i thought it looked ok but i think i would need to practice more for it to look more Victorian and less modern
Victorain Hairstyles
Victorian women's hair was usually thick and long,
In the 1830's to the 1860's hair usually had a middle parting and was curled or plaited and pinned up. there hair was very structured.
In the mid 1860's and 1890's Victorian hair changed its form it was less structured there curls were looser and hair was wore down with that came he use of the hot iron which created more longer and softer looking curls.

Ageing makeup
I was really excited to try this look for the first time I started by making the model frown so I would be able to see the creases in the forehead since the model had no creases I had place them myself.
I applied a darker colour from her skin tone to apply the creases I did this same technique under the eyes getting the model to squint so that the wrinkles would appear and around the mouth.
I went on to add bags to the eyes using a dark brown. with the lips i asked the model to pout and dabbed foundation around the lips
I think in order for this makeup to look realistic i would have to practice much more on the lines and were the wrinkles are placed especially on the forehead

Miss Havisham (Great Expectation)
Miss Havisham is one of the most interesting characters in this novel to me seeing her story unfold as it becomes clear why it is the way she is.
Miss Havisham is quite a dark cold character due to her past of being left at the alter being tricked into loving someone that was only out for her wealth.
she lives in her wedding dress throughout the whole story
never leaving the mansion that has been untouched since the day of her wedding and all clocks stopped to the time were her partner left her.
she is pale as snow due to the fact that she did not want any sunlight to be seen within her home her hair was unkempt possibly untouched since her wedding day.
Miss Havisham adopted a little girl after her partner left her and named her Estella what stared out as love Miss Havisham slowly taught Estella not to feel any emotion or to love so she wouldn't be hurt as she was
victorian Beauty!
Painted by : Emile Eisman Semenowsky
Wearing makeup in the Victorian time was highly frowned upon due to religious beliefs and was seen as immoral but was still worn very lightly by some but those with a string use of makeup were most commonly prostitutes or actresses.
In the Victorian ages women with pale faces were seen to be noble women due to the fact that it was a sign that they did not work out in the sun like the poorer class women with tans.
women would use zinc oxide to whiten there faces. some would also go as far a painting blue veins on them self for a translucent look.
although makeup was not a big thing back then skin care was, women would make there own solution from ingredients they had in there kitchen made with roses or lilies, creams were made with was and different scents
